Cold open
Starting in the middle of the action, before any titles or introduction.
A cold open drops the viewer straight into something happening. No logo, no "hey everyone", no explanation of what the video is about. The explanation comes after the viewer has already decided to stay.
It works because the first seconds are the most expensive real estate in the piece, and titles spend them on information the viewer didn't ask for. Moving the introduction thirty seconds later costs you almost nothing and buys you the attention to deliver it.
It's not free. A cold open that's merely confusing rather than intriguing does more damage than a plain start, and some formats (instructional, corporate, anything where the viewer arrived already knowing what they wanted) are worse for it. The test is whether the first shot raises a question, not just whether it's loud.
